New masterplan for Palm Jebel Ali megaproject approved

Set to have 80 hotels and 110 km of coastline

Palm Jebel Ali is an artificial archipelago in Dubai which began construction in October 2002. Was originally planned to be completed by mid-2008 and has been on hold since.

On Wednesday, May 30, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai approved the masterplan of the Palm Jebel Ali.

Palm Jebel Ali is a luxury lifestyle megaproject that will be twice the size of the iconic Palm Jumeirah.

It will boast an expansive area of 13.4 square kilometers. It will stretch along 110 kilometers of Dubai’s coastline and accommodate over 80 hotels and resorts, making it a remarkable addition to the city’s tourism landscape.

There haven’t been further information provided, but according to the original plans, the megaproject was proposed to include: six marinas, a water theme park, a ‘Sea Village’, home built on stilts above the water and boardwalks that circle the ”fronds” of the ”palm” and spell out an Arabic poem by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Dubai Ruler said that this development is part of plans to make the emirate the most beautiful city in the world.
